I write everything from short, pitchable brief items to books, from technical abstracts to toy copy. When I take on a project, the turnaround will be fast, the copy will be clean and the client will be satisfied.
I also work with Jenevieve Randall, a savvy, well-connected PR professional who is great at pitching stories. If you’d like to work with a team, I can create the words and Jenny can get them out.
Many writers and editors like to charge by the word or the project. I charge by the hour, because this makes me a good match for clients in my fields of expertise and interest – golf, sports, travel, home, garden, wine, fitness, hospitality. I can work faster for them because I already know a good bit about their business.
I reward the prepared, efficient clients who know what they want by charging a standard fee of $75 an hour, four-hour minimum ($300). I also have bulk rates of $60 an hour for projects of 20 hours or more, and a nonprofit rate of $40 an hour. The more groundwork you do, by having prepared notes or interviews or a glossary or background information, the less I cost. Many web-related projects might take me only a couple of hours apiece – text and headlines for your home page, for example, or revisions of your corporate team’s biographies. For a major project, such as a longform biography, fees are negotiable depending on scope.
I welcome small, quick-hit projects. A press release on a new product or service is right up my alley, maybe even this afternoon. Variety is the spice of life, and I like spice.
