Sample rates
Many writers and editors like to charge by the word or the project. I prefer to charge by the hour and give an estimate of how long a given project will take. That estimate is non-binding, but no additional hours will be billed without your permission. Here are some package price examples:
Press Kit package
$400 per page (page=about 500 words). May include print-ready press release, q-and-a, product or CEO profile, reviews, FAQs, image.
Corporate Profile package
Research, interviews and writing of a magazine-quality 1,500-word biography that might be used in trade publications and college alumni magazines + delivery of a 750-word profile useful for press kits, LinkedIn, website “about us” page, business plans, job hunting, philanthropy and anywhere the client sees fit. Photo shoot arranged and supervised. $1,495 (+ additional fee for photographer).
Book Launch package
Copy-editing a 60,000-word book (copy-editing=finding and fixing errors of grammar, spelling and fact as well as providing a short critique of each chapter) + writing a one-page press release+ writing a one-page sales info sheet. $1095.
Website Like This One package
Home page, about page, contact page, blog page, two additional pages and two blog posts. Includes setup, design, writing and photo editing. $1095 (+cost of web host, theme and any additional technology required by the client).
